$18,000 raised by Katoomba Rotary in aid of Australian flood relief appeal
Katoomba Rotary’s Australia Day ‘Long Lunch’ fundraiser for the Australian flood relief appeal raised a total of $18,000 organisers confirmed last Friday.
Colless Foods owner and Katoomba Rotary Club member Tom Colless came up with the idea for the event at Carrington Place, which involved members from all sectors of the local tourism industry.
A marquee was erected and table and chairs set up for patrons to sample a range of showcase dishes from seven of the region’s finest restaurants, hotels and resorts as well as up-and-coming food entrepreneurs at the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School. The Rotary Club of Katoomba pitched in by serving up Aussie meat pies with sauce.
Produce for the event was donated by Colless Foods and Chef’s Market and it was run by a team of volunteers. “It’s important to note the funds raised through Rotary go to Rotary clubs on the ground in flood-affected areas to implement practical outcomes for the community,” Mr Colless said. “This event was well-received and hopefully we can develop it further next year. On behalf of Katoomba Rotary I would like to thank all the people and businesses who volunteered their time to make this such a success.”
